Another alternative is to become a registered Student and thus qualify for Student pricing.
You did not say what your needs were. PS does have a high learning curve so for a causal user it can be overwhelming. Perhaps Photoshop elements would suffice at under $100, it has most of the features of PS and easier to learn. You can always get a 30 day free trial to see how it works.
Also, GIMP is a free photoediting program that is fairly full featured. But it also takes so patience to learn.

It's also the kind of question that can be readily answered by going to the Adobe store; it doesn't require posting in a user to user forum.
