Movie link 3dText.dir was not downloadable.
I tried http://www.openspark.com/adobe/examples/3dText.dir (based on an earlier advice regarding SnapToCap.dir) but it did not return anything either.
It is curious that a few movie links in this chapter tend to display such behavior.
Try http://www.adobe.com/support/director/examples/3DText.dir (with an uppercase "D" in the movie name)
Thanks again, James, for the quick response that resolved the issue.
Would you be able to shed light on why, unlike most of the rest, some links in this chapter appear to not be downloadable as Director movies?
I stand corrected; the other issues are not movies but HTML links. The are 3 of them under the title "The shortcomings of lighting in Shockwave 3D", with hypertext "here".
They are supposed to discuss mirros and shadows.
These are links leading to external sites. Adobe is not responsible for the content on these sites.
Here is the reflections demo by Noisecrime. Here is his shadows demo. Both of these links work for me on Mac 10.6.8, using Safari 5.1.7. The pages take a little while to load, and show a blue background while loading.
The page on the inludo.com site appears to no longer exist.
The reason that you find links to external sites in this section is that, at the time of writing, Director has no built-in feature for dealing with shadows or reflections, so the only solution is to use workarounds invented by independent developers.
I am on Windows7 Pro. I imagine the culprit might not be MS IE but the Window's security system because even when I launch my Safari browswer (5.1.7 also) it does not like to load the content of the address.
I reduced the security of my IE Browser - to no avail.
That is OK. The 3rd party folks in this case have obviously not heeded your advice on being mindful of the client's rendering infrastructure!
