Ok I know that this topic has been exhausted to death, even on these forums however I am still struggling to make a decision and decipher all of the information out there.
In short I am running a new W7 X64 Quadro 5000 editing suite with CS5 master, I need to convert my AVCHD MP4 H.264 (I think that is correct) to a suitable exiting lossless codec.
All I'm able to find is Quicktime .mov lovers; ok I can get behind that and use the apple brand if the industry says it's the best, but I really wanted to know is first is there any other option for Windows users; and second what's the best way to go about using the QT, does wondershare have lossy support as they don't list specifics on the ultimate.
I don't mind buying a converter as pro gear works better and costs money rightfully so.
I don't have a problem with storage space, I'd place an emphasis on quality and speed/versatility versus size (lossless for a reason) you know we are editing we want to work fast and have it look good when we are done I'm sure you understand/ can relate.
I'd like to hear from PC users who can relate, Pro's preferably; although I appreciate mac users opinions it doesn't really help me to say macs are the best buy one and use QT.
What do you use and are you happy? Any major problems/ flaws?
Advice?
Thank you, everyone on here has always been nice and helpful; responces always come fast and look forward to an answer soon as I have work to do this week.
The AE and PR forums are your friend. Still, no matter what, your chouices are and will be limited. Yes, it really is this way: There's even less choices on Win's AVI formats than there is in Quicktime and despite what info you may find elsewhere, I'd strongly advise against using huffYUV or others - those CoDecs are simply bound to fall of the carousel one day or another. Simply use image sequences to be 100% sure if you don't like QT.

well I haven't heard much back on this, I guess everyone either uses a mapple; doesn't convert to lossless or just doesn't care to reply. Obviously my research has not stopped and although I have not heard back from Wondershare I did find another product that is specifically designed for AVCHD media file and converts to .mkv lossless; I'm going to try it out how do you think the mkv will hold upto QT?
