Hi Win wild,

Can you check if the blend mode for that particular layer is set to "normal"?

It was set to normal. I tried setting it to lighten, but that made it darker also.

It goes to black, with reddish tones at the edge. I tried to use the clone tool instead, but now, it too, is putting down some of that dark color!

I am trying to work in what would be roughly Caucasian flesh tone and these tools darken it to a reddish brown, then to black with the reddish color at the edges.

All right. Maybe that makes a difference. Maybe I tried to do something beyond the scope. I cut out and moved one of the eyes. So the area of the cut out might be considered an area of transparency? Part of the blending/smudging would have been over the area. Does this make a difference, and if so - how do I handle it?

Hi Win wild,

Are you using an iPad? Please capture a screenshot and post on here:

If you are using an iPad...click the home buttom and power button at the same time; image will be saved to your camera roll. Then you can upload the image to the forum on your safari.

The tools at the top of the blank reply box are only there for a second, then disappear, so I can't use them. How do I get them back?

Could you upload the photo online and post the direct URL, or transfer the image on to your desktop/laptop and then upload to the forum from there? Thanks

I am not sure why the tool bar in the respond box disappears on the iPad. It works on the Android tablet. Could you please email me your screenshot?

Also, I am thinking the blur tool might do the job for me. But I would still like to have the smudge tool work without this effect.

I was unable to recreate the issue. Have you tried the tool on other images? Does the issue still occurs?
