Red overlay

When I'm removing texture or part of an action, I hit the backslash key for the red overlay, so I can see better.  Now when I hit the backslash, my mask is blackish, grey, weird color.  Don't know where the red went, but would like to restore it.  Any ideas?  Also, I've uninstalled and reinstalled, thinking there was a hiccup in the system with no success.

The red (rubylith) overlay doesn't always show red. It depends on the color of the layer under the mask layer.

If you Alt (option) click on the layer mask it will turn black and white.

If you put a solid fill layer of black below the mask layer then color should always be red, but with other colors the red overlay blends with that color

and can make it look weird sometimes.

You can also check the Mask Options by right clicking on the layer mask and be sure it's set to red (rgb 255,0,0) at 50% is the default setting.
