Adobe Community: Why does footage darken when you move it on timeline?

That's confusing. Clips can't go behind each other. Only over or below.

I think the OP means on the same or different track, but at an earlier time on the timeline.

It's on the same line in the timeline.

If you have one video/audio track on the timeline. You keep adding clips one right after another on that same track.

When I add a clip, then decide to shorten it by physically moving the cursor over the front and end of the clip then the clip turns darker or completely black in the program monitor.

Here are examples of both problems I'm having.

Only shows up when I have a clip on the timeline and nd I move it left on the same video/audio track to put it into position.

From looking at the picture it appears you might have lowered the opacity on accident. If you see the yellow line that's on the clip it is lower on the clip that looks dark raise it back up to 100 and it will return to normal.

Sorry ...dont know what is going on in your issue but something that I notice is your monitors are both running at 100% ....and I would expect to see them set as "FIT"

What is the source footage and what is the project setting?

BTW - my observation is unlikely to have anything to do with your issue.

I agree, that this looks like an accidental Opacity change from 100%.

Unfortunately, it is really tough to see the Opacity "rubberband" on the Clip, in this photograph.

However, if the OP looks at the yellow-orange line, with the Fixed Effect>Opacity selected for display, it should be easy to see any change in the Clip that was moved vs the first one, that was not moved.

One can also look at the Clip info header, with Opacity selected, or in the Effects Control Panel>Opacity, with the Clip Selected.

Thanks - it is an accidental Opacity change.

Appreciate the help. I tried moving the yellow line on the clip and it did darken an otherwise normal clip - so the accidental opacity change is definitely the problem..

Now I can make sure I stop doing that when I grab a clip to move it. Otherwise that would have drove me crazy to have it keep happening.

I'll have to be sure to grab the clips at the top when I move them on the timeline to avoid that yellow line for opacity.

Is that still in CS6 (the opacity line on clips?). I just recently purchased the upgrade but haven't installed until I finish a couple of smaller projects.
