I made some annotations on a PDF form on my iPad...however, when I emailed the annotated form as an attachment, the form did not contain my annotations. It was only the original PDF...did I do slmetning wrong or is that just the way it is?
I believe this is a well known and debilitating limitation of this application but I'll take a swing anyway. I NEED to print the annotated copy of the PDF form, this was the only reason I purchased this app. I have a brother printer and use the iprint&scan app by brother to print. Like so many others this just prints a blank form. I email the document to my work exchange server and see the annotations but as soon as I transfer the file back to my iPad via drop box and open It in anything but adobe reader the annotations are missing. It is like I am chasing my tail. Any thoughts?
You are seeing a problem in iOS. The PDF engine that iOS has built in, which is used by Mail, Safari, and many other third party apps, including the iOS Printing system, does not fully and properly handle the PDF specification. The iOS PDF engine will not display annotations ot form fields, even though the information is in the PDF file, and can be seen in Adobe Reader and pretty much every other PDF application available other than the iOS built-in.
We have informed Apple of this issue, and what they need to do to fix it, but they have not provided us any insight into when or whether they will fix it.
We are working on a workaround for Printing via AirPrint that we hope to have in our next major update later this year, but this will not work for sharing via Mail and Dropbox, thoiugh, because it would render the form fields and comments unusable.
