Hyperthreading Required?

Aug 1, 2012 7:53 AM

The requirements for Speed Grade says Core i7. Is this because the processor is both 4 core AND has hyperthreading?

The reason I ask is because the system I have is a Xeon 2.4Ghz processor, but NO hyperthreading (4 cores though).

I have read that Speed Grade is entirely based on the GPU. I have a GTX570 (1280MB), but the processor is still a concern for me. I won't be doing highly advanced Speed Grade work, but I still want the option to use it when purchasing CS6.

Maybe someone with a Core i5 or a Core i3 has been running Speed Grade successfully?

Thanks!

    Hi,

I am using the GTX570 works fine with speedgrade.  I can't answer specifically why the i7, other than some of the cinema formats require a lot of CPU power (like Red Cine-x), but for quicktime, .mov, image sequences pretty much any Nehalam or later processor should work fine, why not download the trial and give it a try?

    Hi,

HT is not needed for SpeedGrade. In general we recommend using at least a Core i7  but it should work with any modern CPU.

    Hey,Dennis

Are you sure that Adobe SpeedGrade will work will work with any modern CPU, Because I'm looking at getting a new computer with an Intel i5 overclocked to 4.2 GHz. I'm a member of Adobe Creative Cloud so if SpeedGrade will work with this computer that would be great.
