Grouping hidden elements

Can you as in Illustrator hide lements, then use object >> show all on spread, and have the itmes selected.

 

I like to use this technique for cleaning up/grouping complex documents

  1. hiding elements until all in desired group are hidden
  2. unhide
  3. then group.

 

Can't do this in InDesign, but have been doing this in Illustrator since the 80s.

 

No need to tell me to fill out a feature request, am very familiar with that link.

 

Any solutions, workarounds, or shared frustrations appreaciated
