Photoshop Lightroom problems

I got Lightroom 4 student teacher version  I installed it on my Mac and it said it was doing some updates to a previous version (I had no idea I had it) Anyway, I imported pics and burned a few CDs for 3-4 hours, then I closed the program and reopened it and all the work was gone.
