Export PDFs NOT Save As

Illustrator should be able to export a .pdf NOT save as - I've lost so much work this way - proofing a file with a client as a .pdf should not risk overwriting the original. InDesign and other CSS apps work this way, Exporting rather than Saving As...

There is a very ral risk of overwritng the original file and this is very destructive.

The option to save an illustrator file as a pdf could still be there if people really use that - but ADD the Export as .pdf function.

Thank you.

I second that. I HATE the pdf option not being under export. I too have mistakenly "saved" my work as a pdf thinking I was really saving it as an .ai.

And everytime I go to make a pdf I always look for Export first.

I just don't get. Illustrator is Illustrator, it's not Acrobat.
