PDf shows black when using PMS color

I made a file for a postcard using 1PMS color & bk in ID6. When i exported to make a pdf - all looks fine.

when i went to mai to client and i previewed in email b4 i sent, it appeared bk only. I snet to clent and the PMS show black. Any suggestions?

    Make sure everyone is viewing the PDF in either Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader. Other viewers may work, but often are not capable of proper rendering of the complex PDFs that ID can generate.

    do you have any idea why it looked bk when i was looking at it b4 i attached to my email? i was in eamil . see screen shot.

    the blue on left is id file and when i open to attach-appears bkScreen shot 2012-08-11 at 3.18.25 PM.png

    That looks like Mac Preview showing you waht it looks like, and as I said, that's not a reliable viewer. How did it look if your client saved the file on their end and used Adobe Reader?

    When my client opened the file, it was bk- nothing pms 286.

    When i converted the pm s color to 4color the view b4 attaching was fine. however i just emailed both versions to myself and they look fine here.

    so maybe it is on her end. will check with her on mon.

    So Preview reads the embedded profiles and rendering intent in the X-4 file, and give shte correct color, but doesn't deal with PMS colors otherwise?

    No idea, but my guess would be that X-4 does a better job defining the spot color rectangle as a Lab colored object. With 1 PMS rectangle on the page no profiles come into play—it's not CMYK or RGB.

    Hi

    i Exported to the PDF/X-4 preset and sent to client. still opening up as bk in adobe reader.

    I have to prepare a 1 color file to printer to print a one color job.

    Something that should be so simple is taking a lot of time :-(

    I can't replicate your problem. Here's a PantoneReflexBlue PDF/X-4

    This is a long shot but did you rename the new X-4 pdf? If it has the same name maybe the old version is somehow being cached on your client's machine.

     

    The preview won't matter for the printer—it doesn't affect the separation when the job is spot color.
