Just thought I would post this bit of information, which took me a long time to figure out and I still don't know why it happens.
Thought I would pass that on in case someone else find it useful.
Ok so it goes like this.
Just to let you know before i tell you the steps,Framemaker 9 is not compatible on Win 7 64 bit, however you can give it a try.
This happens when you install acrobat suite because it comes with a distiller and when you install acrobat it overrides the pdf creation capability of Framemaker .
1)In control panel-->printer and faxes,Add Adobe PDF as a printer ,if its already there, make it as a default printer
2)If the 1st step do not works, then you have to reinstall Framemaker 9 .
Let me know if that works for you.
Hi Arnis and Harpreet, thanks for the info, but both suggestions are what I already did when things worked...neither suggestion is relevant as my entire system crashes due to the roaming profile. You also cannot have both check boxes selected at the same time (Generate Acrobat Data and creating PS file).
As for FM9 not being compatible on 64 bit..I have been using it for 3 years on the same machine and yes, there are problems, but this was a recent event..
You also cannot have both check boxes selected at the same time (Generate Acrobat Data and creating PS file).
Yes, you can have them both selected. In fact, when you click the PDF Setup button and then close the dialog box, the Save to file (the PS file) box is selected automatically.
Thanks Van Kurtz..I don't doubt it works for others, but for me it has always crashed my system (at this point, who knows why)...but now that I have determined this Roaming profile thing...well, that seems to have allowed me to print to PDF, or to select both check boxes at the same time...but that is why I posted this note in the first place! In case there is some other person out there having the same problem.
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.
