AVM1 swf not unloading, please help!

I am using a SWFLoader component to load in media into my app.  one of the options is to load a swf.  The problem I am having is if it is a AVM1 swf(as1 or 2) it wont unload, and if it has audio, it keeps playing even if it off screen.  I don't have any control over the loaded swfs, so I can't use a localConnection solution.  I unloadAndStop(), removing the SWFLoader component, it's children, forcing garbage collection, nothing works.  I have been searching for some answer for 3 hrs now with no luck.  Does anyone have suggestions, or sulotions to this issue?
