CS6 crashes when working on a rotated image

Quite frequently when I rotate an image with the rotate tool and then work on it, after a while photoshop crashes on me. This never used to happen on CS5.

My setup is iMac12.1, lion 10.7.4

Any suggestions?

Have you tried different Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphics Processor Settings > Advanced Settings?

Otherwise can you update the Graphics Display Card driver?

And is Photoshop updated to 13.0.1?

It has never happened to me, for sure, but then I severely mistrust the Lions and am running under Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I have played with the graphics settings in the preferences but so far no luck. Yes, photoshop is updated to 13.0.1

Just to be sure, when you made the changes for testing, did you quit and restart Photoshop before trying them?  That's important.

I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem.

What do you have for RAM and graphics card?

How are you rotating the image?  Is it a whole image flip or a selection rotated?  Or does it make a difference?

Just tested rotating an image and doing various lasso selections here.  No problem found on PC / Windows 7 x64.

Have you installed all the updates for Photoshop?

And what does your crash report say?

You are right - I didn't have updates installed. However I only managed to install update 13.0.1, not the the 13.0.4 - it says that it's not applicable. I will try to work now and see how it goes, and will let you know.

For Macintosh you should be on 13.0.4.

It doesn't work - I cannot install the 13.0.4 update - I've tried to downlaod it manually from adobe website and I tried through Adobe application manager - the first said - update not applicable, the second - that all is up to date...

But nevertheless, I am working with 13.0.1, and so far no crash

I am on version 14.2 and mountain lion 10.8.5 on imac and it crashes too from time to time.

I also experienced this on other systems too, mac pro, macbook pro...

To me it seems to be bug. Most people I know don't use the rotate tool so I can't really verify what other's experience is

This is quite a headache to me since I really need to use this tool

I have a vague memory that the Rotate tool uses the GPU.

Yes, there is a reference to it here:

    http://jaykinghorn.com/2008/11/20/photoshop-cs4-rotate-tool/

Bonus Tip: In order for the Rotate tool to work correctly, you will need to have a supported graphics card. (No, that first generation iMac isn’t supported.) For more on GPU Acceleration and a link to a list of supported graphics cards, check out my earlier post on the subject.

So appart from obvious things like using the most up to date driver, it might me worth running through different settings in Preferences > Performance > Advanced.

Oh, and tell your buddies they are missing out big time if they don't use Rotate
