I'm on a Retina Display Macbook Pro with the latest CUDA drivers installed. I just updated to 6.0.2 this morning and got playback using all three new modes : Software, OpenCL, and CUDA. All three worked when I was using the internal Retina Display. When I connected the laptop to my two Apple Thunderbolt Displays ( chained together ), the CUDA playback no longer works. OpenCL and Software playback still work as expected.
Is CUDA playback faster / lighter on the system than OpenCL playback? I'm editing 5k .r3ds and would like to use whichever is faster.
My guess is this is just a bug. Hoping Adobe sees this and fixes.
Thanks.

I'm getting a similar problem except OpenCL doesn't seem to work all the time. Sometimes my preview, either on the macbook pro or an external monitor, freezes or goes black, seems to happen randomly when editing, though I noticed it a lot when I was working in both PP and AE via dynamic linking.
