Installation Default Path

I note that my Adobe Premier Elements 10 was installed to C:/Program Files whereas my Adobe Elements 10 was installed to C:/Program Files (x86). My operating system is Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I just accepted the default path when I installed both. Is there a reason why they were installed to different folders by default?

    Premiere Elements 10 is a 64-bit program and so installs in the Program Files directory.

     

    Photoshop Elements is a 32-bit program and so installs in the Program Files (x86) directory.

    Premiere Elements will install in Program files.

    The one in program files (X86) must be the contents folder. those are the DVD templates, movie themes etc.
