Can't intall Photoshop CS6 - "Inconsistency in Installer Database"

This is terrible.  Was using GIMP; found CS6 on sale, thought I'd give it a try.  I'm missing GIMP already.

Bought fresh new DVD.

Ran installer.

Fails.  Here's teh dump:

"Your installation encountered errors...Inconsistency on the installer database.  Please restart..."

Exit code:15

ERROR: ASU has quit unexpectedly.

ERROR: Media DB Error : 18

This is like DOS-era stone age error message and failure recovery.

Restarted.

Still fails.

Went to adobe, manually registered my serial number; website accepts it.  Re-tried installer, still fails.

Ran the diagnosis utility; no dice.  The Token is 40-69367-113227092012.

Wasted time trying 'cleaner' - no dice.

WTF!?!

I was adviced to delete all previous versions of CS 5 and earlier (which made me extremely nervous), including the clean up program (can't remember now, check the thread) and then try to install again. It finally worked! I hope you'll get it eventually!
