AE Crashing my new Imac i7

Oct 19, 2012 5:24 PM

I have recently had After Effects crash a few times and Had it freeze my new imac 27" i7.  It has 16Gigs of Ram. The

AMD Radeon HD 6970M has 2 gigs RAM of its own.  I'm also running it off of a SSD.  AE currently says GPU not available.  Is there a way to add my card to the list of compatible cards so my computer will grow a pair? Or would i get better results with another card?  Are there any other options to help after effects run better on this machine?

ATI cards are not currently supported for GPU acceleration.

iMacs do not have interchangable viceo cards. You'll have to wait for an update to AE. I can't imagine that they are not working on a solution for other cards.

The GPU acceleration you are not getting is the acceleration of the otherwise very slow raytraced 3D.  That shouldn't impact anything unless, and shouldn't cause your machine to not want to start AE. As a start, hold down Cmd-Opt-Shift when you start AE to trash your preference file, to see if you can get AE to work.
