I would like to know how to embed a sound file into a pdf so that it plays when the recipient opens it( I am using a mac)
It could be added in InDesign if that's the program that's generating the PDF. Or it can be added in Acrobat Pro using the Add Sound tool. Since you're tag says you're using Acrobat XI, that would be Tools > Interactive Objects > Add Sound.
I tried this Steve bu I can't add the 'actual' sound file? I can't find a way to go to my desktop to select it and import it in, I am also struggling to find how to make it play on opening? thanks for your help
To make a media file play when the PDF is opened, click the "show advanced options" box and change the activation option. If you've already created the annotation right-click it and choose Properties to get to the same dialog.
Thankyou Dave I managed to do it (after converting the audio file from m4a to mp3) but when I emailed the file to another computer it didn't play! My concern is that I am sending this to a potential employer so I want to be sure that it will play when opened. Any advice you could offer would be great. thank you for your help thus far.
Anyone viewing the file will need Adobe Reader 9 or later, and if they have Adobe Reader XI they'll need to install the Flash Player extension manually. Opening it in something like OS X Preview, nothing will work.
