Can it be that Adobe Photoshop Elements can open 11 no. Eps files? This worked before but?

If that is so, why is not it? Is there an alternative?

Alternatives whould be any tool that can use GhostScript, including GIMP, Inkscape or free image viewers liek IrfanView. The rest is a bit vague, since you did not provide any system info or otehr details, but I would guess that since EPS files are only used in professional environments, PSE never truly supported them fully in the first place...

The only thing which puzzles me is that PSE11 still includes the eps patterns...

I also think that the best format for Elements to open files created by vector drawing softwares like Illustrator is the PDF format. I suppose most of those softwares can export PDF file. If they can't, there is always the possibility to use virtual printer drivers where you 'print' to a pdf file (GhostScript, as cited by Mylenium).

The link provided above includes EPS files in the list of supported Elements files (for importing).

    Any explanation?

I just feel i should comment and say if one opens an eps with a tiff preview with File>Open As>Tiff, then all one gets in pse 11 is the 8 bit preview file and not the real fullsize eps.

And the workaround by putting the EPS Parser.8BY plugin from an older version of photoshop elements doesn't help those who don't have an older version of photoshop elements.

(yes people have a choice to buy pse 11 or not, but since adobe doesn't offer older versions, then people will still buy it)

I think a majority of people want to open vector files saved from illustrator that are not in the pdf format, in which there thousands of those on the web for download.

(as an example pse 11 ships with some postscript patterns inside the patterns folder, but one can't open them in pse 11)

I would like to suggest making the plugin available for those that don't have an older version of elements to get the EPS Parser.8BY from.

Don't forget there are many free (and excellent) softwares to do the conversion ; I am using Faststone myself.

Agreed. It could be supplied in the 'optional' plugins folder.

Here's some sample eps files that a user would not be able to open in pse 11:

    http://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/data/eps/eps.html

This sample eps does have a tiff preview, but as you can see the tiff preview is clearly inferior to the real eps

that would open in an older version of pse.
