Need to lock text changes...

but still edit the paragraph spacing and letter and word spacing. Basicly I page and format books from authors before it gets to press and it would be nice not to have to worry about a stray keystroke adding a typo to preaproved text. is there anyway to do this in Indesign CS5 or 6?

I'd suggest you use paragraph and character styles that have no local formatting. That way, you can edit the styles and never touch the text. Other than that, placing the cursor in the text will always have some risk of changing keystrokes, even if you are careful. Also keep an eye on overset text.

Ok, thanks. The problem is that paragraph style changes would be uniform through the book and I am needing to feather the paragraph spacing.

Perhaps you need to set the object style for your text frames to vertically justified?
