When I use envelope distort, the text warps wrong.

When I use envelope distort on a a chevron shape, the text warps beyond the shape and new anchor points and curves are automatically added.  What am I doing wrong?  Here are images of what's going wrong: http://imgur.com/a/usHj2

    I dunno without recreating the effect.

     

    In the screen shot below, I simply drew a path to mimic the chevron shape. Typed the text on the path, set the type on a path option to skew. Adjusted the size of the font, added a little space (as can be seen on the dialog box showing) to move where the font joins at the bottom of the path "V".

     

    Similar effect, not the exact same.

    Is there like a setting where illustrator automatically adds curves into an enveloped object?  I mean, as soon as I make the envelope the shape gains angle handles.  I have no idea where they come from, considering that the shape is made of all sharp angles.  I'm not sure why this is happening to me, everyone else I talk to isn't having this issue.

    I can't recreate your issue. I'm also not sure what steps you're following, but here's what I did:

    I tried it with live type, too, and it still worked. You may try copying your two objects into a brand new document, and see if the issue persists.

    I couldn't dupliace it either and I tried with live text with a 3D extrude and still got a perfect evelope?
