How to format/align text for credits?

Nov 23, 2012 2:06 PM

Hello,

I'm new to Ai, and I'm working off of a 2 column end movie credit scroll with a space between them.

The formatting/alignment is fine and I simply need to replace the names in each column.  However, the text is not behaving how I'd like it to. When I type text in the left column, I'd like the text to move to the left, but when I type it goes to the right (into the middle space), pushes the text in the other column to the right and messes up the formatting.

Is there a setting or way to make the text go to the left?

Thanks

    Joe,

In the Paragraph palette, which is with the Character palette, tick Align Right; you will have to move the column back in place (you may determine its position before you change).

See online help to learn to use tabs correctly.

Set your text object to align left.

    Invoke the tab ruler.

Set a right tab stop just left of center of your text object.

Set a left tab stop just right of center.

    Then...

    Type a tab character.

    Type the left column text.

    Type a tab character.

    Type the right column text.

    Type a return.

    Repeat for each facing-column line.

Also read the documentation about how to use Paragraph Styles, so you can store the above setup.
