I am new on PP CS6 (trial version). When I try to import my video file (.mov from a Canon XF professional movie camera) it tells me "codec missing or unavailable". What codec do I need to fix this, or is there something else I can do to remedy this proble? I was thinking I might be able to convert these files to H264 files. Is this true? will it help? The files are substantial in size (17-22 gigs) each - there are four.
It just occured to me.
Your camera should have come with some software to import footage in its native format with options to convert to readable formats for applications such as Avid or Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen

To the best of my knowledge, Canon XF camera only record to the MXF wrapper. If I'm right, this means someone has converted your video, probably via Final Cut Pro.
I'd recommend going back to the original media and skipping the .mov files.
