Nov 25, 2012 9:26 AM

I have uesd Photoshop elemts 5.0 for years.   Mainly I use it for cropping, a small amount of touch up.  Recently  when I try to save a picture as a jpeg the message comes up "could not complete your request because of a program error.  I can save as i tiff. and other formats bu t not jpeg.  So I uninstalled 5.0 and reinstalled and the same thing happens.  Can you help me to fix the problem.  I really don't want to learn an new version or purchase a new version do to the cost.  THANK YOU

See if resetting the preferences helps:

    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.

Well seriously i haven't seen PSE 5 Welcome Screen, so not able to follow what you have written.

But you can do one thing. Go to this folder:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5

    Find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe

Press Ctrl + Alt +Shift keys and double click on this file. It will launch the Preference reset dialog box.

Other thing you can try is right click on this file and select "Run as Administrtaor".

See if any of the solution works.

Hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt and keep them pressed whilst double clicking on Edit & enhance Photos. Then release. Click Yes to delete settings when you see a pop-up dialog box.

You should be able to find the exe (application file)

Try this. Click the Windows start button and in the search box type PhotoshopElementsEditor (no spaces)

If the file appears near the top of the search results right-click on the name whilst holding down the three keys and choose Open.

Click Continue & Yes to delete settings.
