Multiple stroke – any way to do this?

O.k., so here’s the problem:

I have a stroke with multiple stroke appearances on a dark green background.

The 5 pt stroke is the same colour as the background.

I want to replace all the dark green with a pixel image.

No problem with the background, but how to get the image to show up between the yellow and light green strokes?

I know I can expand everything and get rid of the dark green stroke with Pathfinder Minus Front, but is there another way?

It would be nice to keep the simple strokes simple.

Use an ArtBrush containing the yellow and light green instead of the multiple strokes.

You can create a knockout group. Assign the dark green stroke an opacity of zero and turn the whole object into a knockout group

If it is only a straight level horizontal or vertical rule line then you make three strokes as such

    1 yellow stroke 3 points

2 light green 1 point each

For both light green strokes you give each an Effect>Distort and Transform>Transform and move each sttroke accordingly.

I found when I did this I had to move the light green stroke I wanted to be on top 3.5 points as expected but the bottom one only 2.5 pts. I haven't figured out wh so be aware that the bottom stroke may not move as expected.

Of course you can now expad the appearance and turn that into an art brush.
