Conversion of CS5 and CS6 Illustrator files to lower versions programatically

Dec 4, 2012 5:00 AM

Is there a way to programatically convert CS5 and CS6 illustrator files to lower versions (CS4, CS3 etc) programatically.  Are there any third party tools to do it.

I have never heard the word "programatically" before (not sure if it even exists) but you can easily save down to older versions.

Save As... > "Adobe Illustrator Document" and OK.

On the following dialogue box click on "Version".

There you can save various versions all the way back to Illie 3 which was with us in the eighties.

He's probably looking for a script to do the job. The answer is yes. There is an AI scripting forum. Check there.

the scripting approach must use the illustrator application....I'm not sure if third party tools would be able to open/save to the ai format...even illustrator itself is unable to open its own files (created in newer versions) without some data lose.
