Greetings. I am really hoping somebody can help with this irritating issue. Details of computer:
PC based system running Windows Home Premium 64 bit
8 GB ram
Lots of hdd space
CS5.5 Master Suite
Epson Sylus Photo R1900
Operating system, CS5 suite and printer drivers all updated.
When attempting to print a photo, it can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes for the print dialog box to open up. It takes SO LONG that it appears that Photoshop has frozen, but it has not. The print dialog box opens eventually. This started about 2 months ago. I have looked at all preferences, assigned more RAM to Photoshop, uninstalled and reinstalled the entire suite, ran all updates, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers - all to no avail.
I am at a loss as to why it would take SO LONG for the print dialog box to open after selecting print? I thought there may be a problem with the print spooler or print queue, but the slowness happens BEFORE the print back system is touched. The print queue is empty, and there is nothing stuck in there. I've checked.
I don't even know what to try at this point.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
PS -Photoshop does stop responding on occasion when trying to print.
Any chance your system default printer is pointed at a device that is no longer online?
If not that, I have heard of printer name lengths causing problems... Rename your printer so that it's 8 characters or less and contains no spaces.
I have looked at all preferences
Try trashing your preferences.
Reset Photoshop Preferences FAQ:
If you use the keyboard shortcut method as listed a the end, make sure you get a small dialog to OK resetting preference file.
Update. Whatever is going on is a function of how Photoshop and the Epson printer are talking to each other. If I select a different printer the issue goes away - until I change the printer to the Epson - then the problem occurs.
I have reinstalled the drivers for the printer. Cleaned the preferences file, reinstalled the chipset drivers, changed USB cable. All to no avail. I have contacted Epson support, and am again at a loss. It should not take 5 to 15 minutes for a print dialog box to open up.
Although not a critical error - it is most frustrating.
Any direction or advice would be most appreciated.
