Transcoding Settings not available

I'm trying to burn an HD DVD for an animation course I am in, and Encore CS6 won't let me change the transcoding settings. The Transcoding Menu under the "File" tab is grayed out, and Encore automatically sets everything to 720x480. Is there anything I can do to change this or do I just have to suffer through it?

There is no such thing as an HD DVD... for Hidef, you need BluRay

What I meant was that I want it to be compressed in an HD setting, not Standard Def.

First, if you look at the transcode settings for assets, you can always choose bluray transcode settings (which will be HD) as well as standard def settings. I suspect you are looking at the project default transcode setting.

There is a difference with making DVDs, I've previously used DVD Studio Pro and there is a gigantic difference in the compression options. Rendering it 720x480 has resulted in a terrible picture quality in the past.

What are you going to burn, a DVD disk or a Bluray? Work through John's links. DVDs are 720x480 (NTSC) no larger.

To play in a DVD player, the disc MUST be made according to the DVD specification

I found some discussion of writing a SHORT amount of HiDef material to a DVD... but that disc will not work in a DVD player, you will need to have a BluRay player

    BluRay then to DVD http://forums.adobe.com/thread/885601

You can put HD content on a DVD (about 20 minutes) but there is a downside

You need a BD player to play this DVD and not all standalone BD players will play this DVD without issues (PC BD players are more forgiving.)

To make a DVD with HD content (there is no name for this kind of DVD. HD DVD is a wole different concept which is now passe)

Make a BD project in Encore.

Export to iso and burn this iso with Nero or ImgBurn to DVD as an image.
