problems scaling objects

I have a problem: when i scale objects (even if I do a proportional scale clicking "Shift" button), the program automatically modify the alignment and the form of the object. for example if i scale a "stickman" which is completley simmetric, finally I have a figure with arms of different dimensions and proportions. What can I do about it? thanks. Im using the cs5

PS the problem is not aboute the stroke dimension, is the path that is modified.

Charlie,

If you have Align to Pixel Grid ticked in the Transform panel, untick it and try again (you should also untick Align to Pixel Grid for new objects in the Transform panel, and you should probably untick it for new documents of the same kind as well).
