Using tags created in Bridge with other software

If I invest umpteen hours tagging my photo's using CS4 Bridge, will those tags be permanently embedded in the Metadata?

I'm wondering if, another user, or myself will be able to utilize the tags using other popular software like:

Photoshop Elements

Picasa

Windows Live Photo Gallery

Microsoft digital image suite

Snagit

Nikon Capture

Paintshop

Photo Director

Aperture 3

Photomatix

Photoimpact

Keywords are embedded on the image, so other programs should be able to read them. I know Windows Explorer will have not tried the others.

Snagit 11.1 does not support reading the metadata.
Windows Live Photo Gallery does support metadata {including tags} (Odds are any microsoft graphics app post windows 7 will - My opinion)

Because I don't have to save the file after tagging I'm nervous but thank for the reassurance that tagging is universal for software that reads metadata.
