Unable to Merge Points Islands ?

Dec 9, 2012 3:05 PM

I know that to merge different sections they have to be on the same layer / sublayer then you should cut them so they merge or rather it's not closed.  That is exactly what I did and the little gap you see in the image, I can't get those two to merge together as one seamless object ?

Is it the black shape you are on about?

You can see there are 2 gaps in the path.

Join anchors at each side of each of them. (Either with the Pen tool or by direct selecting the anchors and Object > Path > Join)

I'm sorry, I'm confused about which areas you are trying to join. If it's the ones marked in the image below, as Steve said, you can direct select each point and then press cmd J to join.

Move the points so the black areas overlap..

Or draw a new black shape which fills the gap, select all the black and...

then Pathfinder > Add (or Unite depending upon AI version)

    Beaver,

One of the Anchor Points may have a double.

You can click each of them with the Direct Selection Tool, move it by a certain amount (so you can move it back) to see, and delete the end point or use the Delete Anchor Point Tool to delete the other one.

Those paths can be anything (I suspect a clipping mask). But nobody can tell without seeing either the whole thing or the layer panel (with objects)

You should show us the whole picture

Like Monika says, it’s difficult to know what it is you want to join.

Do you want the black area to be continuous?

If so, Scott’s suggestion is good; Draw a black shape with the Pen over the bit you want to join, then select all the black stuff and Pathfinder (panel) Unite.
