How do I create Icons?  Using a photo and making the background transparent.

I'm new to Photoshop Elements.  Im trying to take a picture of fire alarm devices and make the background transparent.  Can anyone show me the simple way to select part of the image and turn the unselected area transparent?

    If your background is of solid color,try to use Magic Eraser tool

    1)Select Magic Eraser tool.

    2)Click on the background part.

    3)Now your backgroud is deleted.

    4)Click Ctrl+A - It wiil select your object

     

    else

     

    1)Select your images object by using the Quick Selection tool.

    2)After selecting the Object go to Select menu > Inverse.

    3)Click Delete - it will make background area transparent.

    1. The easiest way is to take the picture(s) against a solid background.
    2. Open the picture file. It will be the Background layer
    3. Drag the lock icon on the background layer in the layers panel to the trash can. This converts the layer to unlocked,  Layer0.
    4. Access the magic wand tool, tick "contiguous" on the tool's option bar. Click on the background
    5. Hit delete on keyboard

     

    If this does not work for you, please post a representative picture (if/when you have one), and we can modify the directions to deal with the issue.

    Select you object and whilst you have the matching ants press ctrl+J

    Then turn off or delete the background layer.

    Thank you......  It worked perfectly, now I just need to get better with selecting an object in a photo.
