The S100 images lack GPS data when view in Camera Raw, though Canon utility program will display the GPS data.
What is this thread about, anyway? The title says something about LR and an S100. The text of the messages talks about Canon and Adobe software not showing GPS data. Can you ask a question for people to respond to? It also helps to specify which versions of software you’re using.
This is about downloading CR2 files from an SD card used in a new Canon S100 using Lightroom 2.7 64-bit. Lightroom lists the files and reports "Unknown errors occurred." Bridge
CS5will open and display the file, but in Photoshop CS5 the file info does not show GPS data, even though it shows in Canon's Digital Photo Professional software that came with the camera.
Anyone else having this problem? Does the latest Lightroom fix it?
IIRC, Raw support for the S100 was not introduced until Lightroom 3.6, so it's not surprising that you can't get your 2.7 to read them. To import raw files from the S100 you'll either need to first convert them to DNG using the free DNG Converter, or you'll need to upgrade to LR4 (though you might still be able to purchase an upgrade license for 3.6, but not from Adobe).
My suggestion on the issue would be to try and update the ACR to the most recent version and then try.
It should be able to read the GPS Data as per the doc below:
I am using LR 4.3 (ACR 7.3). GPS data is not displayed for my Canon S100 RAW files in the Library > Metadata > Exif panel. (I had to confirm that the GPS function was enabled in the camera, and it was.)
Aside: GPS data from my iPhone 4S displays just fine.
I've seen this myself. To assist with isolating the issue please create a new post with:
GPS can be seen in
PSCS6 shows data in Info and TIFFs created from the NEF's via Lr/Ps "Edit In" show the data in Lightroom!!
Adobe are on holiday at the moment so let's gather as much info as possible to pass on when they return.
Thanks, John. I upgraded to 4.3 and import works ok now, but GPS data shows up only in Canon's software and in ACR Raw Data tab and Advanced>EXIF tab. Not in Camera Data tab.
Powershot S100 and problems with reading GPS data into the Lightroom
I am having the same problem with my Powershot S100, LR 4.3 and reading GPS data into LR Metadata field. I am running Win7 32 bit. GPS data is correctly displayed in the camera, but would not get imported into the LR.
I found a workaround:
1. In LR, select image which has GPS coordinates recorded in camera,
2. right-mouse click, Metadata->Read Metadata from File.
3. GPS info is now updated in LR
This suggests that LR is not properly reading EXIF info from the camera file during import. Please post if there is a siler way to import GPS data.
