I have just installed PSE 11 in my Mac Book Pro running on OS 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. When trying to open Organiser It quits unexpectedly. Any ideas why?

Take a look at this. It's not PSE specific but covers Adobe applications - see if it helps:

Sorry for delay. Away for New Year. Happy 2013.
When I try to open the editor I get the message "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders. "
I have checked the file permissions and system and admin are read & write and everyone is read only.
Please try creating a new user account and then launching Organizer. To create a new user go to system Preferences >>Users & Groups, click the lock so you can make changes, then click the plus button at the bottom left of the window and create a new account. For the type of account choose Administrator, then log out of your current account and log in as the new user and see if PSE works any better.
Thanks

How about Organizer? Is it working fine too?
I'm not sure of what causes the issue but the error message you were getting, pointed to permissions not being available to current user. I think now if you try using the older user account, you should see Editor working fine. Please let me know if that's not the case.
Thanks

In the old user account, please try resetting preferences. Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 settings
and any lockfiles with the same names.
That library is hidden in 10.8. To see it, in the finder click the Go menu and hold down the option key. It will appear below the little house for your user account. While you're in there go to the Saved Application States folder and delete everything for PSE.
Thanks

Everything as per the above was deleted except that Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 paths wasn't in the preferences folder.
Then I tried opening the organiser and it still quits unexpectedly. also when trying to launch PSE Editor, the following message is displayed: "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders"
