Question about file management using external drive.

I'm new to Lightroom and Mac.  My photos have filled my hard drive, so I am trying to move them to my external drive.  I moved all my pictures (through LR) from Lightroom to my external drive.  Fine.  However, my photos are all still found in Finder (where they were located before I got Lightroom).  Are the files in Finder duplicates of all the files I moved from within Lightroom?  I'm so confused!  Please help.

In case it's helpful, I'm using a MacBook Pro version 10.7.5 with Lightroom 4 and PhotoShop Elements 10.  Hard-drive is Seagate.

TIA for any help!!

How did you "Move" them form inside Lightroom? What steps?

Normally moving files does not duplicate but performs an OS-level move.

Where does LR say they are now? The Internal? The External?

Off hand, I would say you had two copies to start with and moved one of them.
