What is the best way to implement a separation rule?

I've got a list of items that I want to put rules between like so:

 

Item 1

-------

Item 2

-------

Item 3

 

I tried doing this with  Paragraph Rules within a style, but this always puts a rule at the end like this:

 

Item 1

-------

Item 2

-------

Item 3

-------

 

Is there some way to implement a separator line? I could always go back to the age of the typewriter and use actual hypens, but I think there must be a better way.

    Use two different styles. If you use rule below, the last item should be styled without a rule. If you use a reule above, it would be the first item. I think that would be easier to set up as you could make the style withthe rule above the "next style" foir the one applied to the first item, and to itself.
