advanced/though one: spriral logo/shutter

hi there

 

i am trying to make a logo for a photographer. i want to make a shutter, representing a minimalistic peacock. while searching, a similar design is already exhisting, nevertheless a hawk instead of a peacock.

 

easy to recreate with illustrator, except for the wings.

 

first one: logo with hawk

 

below (b/w) peacock. on the right the wings, but i can't get them to be "cartoonish/spriral-like) like the example... with the rotate/duplicate tool i can make nice peacock wings, but then i give up....

 

 

any tips?

    I have the sneaking feeling that what may be right for an eagle isn’t necessarily right for a peacock.

    Have a good look at a real peacock to see what peacocks are about.

    There are lots of peacock images on Google

    still i think this can be done.... see my first attempt, the head looks already quite nice. need a way to fit the feathers within the spiral triangles (shutter pieces)

    You may like to calculate(like you did in the eagle logo, head+x*wing=360) and use transform effect(effct->distort and transform->transform)

    Group object(s) with a rectangle or circle without fills/strokes(it must be the same as or larger than the art, also its center must be the center of the art)  then apply transform effect.

    note: eagle logo was NOT made by me. but using this as a refference. in the meantime i have emailed the designer of the hawk logo explaining my idea's. unfortunately immediately threathening with copyright infringements etc. guess i have to find another approach...

    You may consider just having (parts of) feathers skewed radially from the centre, using the distinct eyes, and the crest at the top.

    The thing about peacocks is how small their heads are compared to everything else.

    You hardly notice the head when a peacock displays.

    decided to let it all go, but go for the shutter combined with the structure of the peacock feather...

     

    not quite there yet regaring the shutter/centre.. but so far quite happy about the results....
