I bought the upgrade soon after release and it has been running just find. Yesterday, I started ID5.5 and it locked at the splash screen. After some attempts to address though searches, I found that Illustrator did the same thing. I then tested all of the other programs in the suite and they operate fine; these two being the exception.
I then uninstalled, used the cleaner, used spybot, used registry mechanic to straighten up the registry, restarted and reinstalled the suite. Same problem.
I then went to the plug ins renamed the folders for both, then deleted the settings folders etc. Still no result.
Any ideas please?
You are not providing any system information or other details. Watch the spalsh screen and tell us at which point it locks up and provide the crash info from the Event Viewer along with system specs.
Thanks for taking the time to help. Truly appreciate it. Here is the info you requested.
Windows 7 SP-1
AMD 64 Dual Core 2.6
Please keep in mind that all other Creative Suite programs are working fine and both AI and ID have also been fine for years. A surprise when they both froze. I have used Spybot and Windows Defender (Security Essentials) also during same period. Been wracking my brain trying to think of what site or thing I may have downloaded other than updates but cannot come up with anything other than Audacity and the MS e-Learning shell.
ID Splash Stall @: "Executing start up services" (waited minimum of ten minutes, no change).
I reinstalled AI and that took care of it, but did no good with ID. Tried that twice.

AI Splash Stall @:
Just got back to this. Had to use Quark to finish job.
Uninstalled Expression Web and restarted ID but did not get the same report - Applications showed the following at time of launch only. All other times and reports were not related to same period except one below this first one.
ID still freezes at "executing startup services"
Not wanting to do this but do you think unistalling balance of Expression Suite is necessary?
Thanks for your help.
Also got this at exact same time spot.
Well, something is fundamentalyl busted with your TCP/ networking stuff. Short of reinstalling the operating system from scratch I don't think you'll be able to fix it. all your tools crash trying to access network components and that could be anything from a security tool haven bent your networking stuff beyond recognition to a virus doing its thing...
