My lasso tool jumps. Halfway through a cutout the dotted line jumps across the screen by itself and closes the circle. This never happened with my old version of elements (3). Does anybody know a fix for this? I am running windows 8 and have tried switching from a mouse to a Wacom tablet. Same problem.
Thanks in advance
The fix seems to be to open your lasso tool by holding left mouse button down over the icon until the tool opens itself. Don't double click. Just hold the button down. At least with elements 10.
Didn't get an answer but Keifer's thread about similar problems gave me the idea so here it is if anybody wants it,
This is a known issue. it happens when you are slowly selecting your object or it is taking time to select.
Actually it makes your selection anyways. So you can continue moving your mouse along the edges to make the selection. when you release the mouse, your selection will be in place.
Thank You Swarnima for your answer. This is not the issue of the dotted line disappearing that a lot of peple have, but you are right... it happens when selecting slowly. The line jumps across the screen back to the starting point and closes the shape. If this is a known, common issue Adobe should clean it up. The lasso is a pretty basic part of the tool kit. I've found two fixes. One is to use a Wacom Tablet. Just changing one's mouse might also do it. I suspect that as soon as an optical mouse passes over a dark surface the program interprets the lack of input as meaning you're done and jumps to close the shape. The other is to click the box with the lasso so that all three lasso's come up... the magnetic lasso, the regular lasso etc. Then left click on the lasso and hold the button down until the selection box goes away... Just the lasso tool will be left and you can now use it normally. I have no idea why this should work but it seems to.
