Unable to create guides that Show up

I am unable to create guides (those light blue balancing horiz & vert lines) in fireworks 6. Whenever I try to create a guide it re-draws the ruler origin. I even watched a video demonstrating this and when I try to follow it it still re-draws the ruler. What am I doing wrong?

Update: Okay, I was able to create guides...but only sometimes. Usually the guides don't stick! I can't tell when the guides will show up or not. Could this be a memory problem? I do have the latest & best Asus gaming PC.

Thank you

Are you really using Fireworks 6? If so, that's a very old version…

As far as redrawing the ruler origins, that should only happen if you drag from the top left corner, where the rulers intersect. Otherwise, to create a new guide, you drag from the horizontal or vertical rulers at the top or side of the canvas.

There are a few basic guides-related commands in the View menu. There's also a really powerful command panel extension that can help you in working with guides: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/guides_panel.html

You're not the first Fireworks user to experience some issues with the drawing and rendering of guides. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what would be causing the issue(s) you're experiencing.
