Creating an eBook with InDesign

Hi,

I would like to create a 100 pages eBook with InDesign with about 20% of pictures.

What I would like to know is the size of the documents that I need to create.

Also, do I need to do 2 documents, one for iPad and one for iPhone?

And do you think my final document will be too big and I will need to convert it into ePub format?

Thank you very much,

Julian

Define ebook, please. Are you thinking DPS, EPUB, PDF?

Impossible to answer without seeing the seeing the content or knowing

    your target audience.

Well, you've already started to tell us some of the information Bob requested. Your target audience includes iOS users, so there are going to be file format restrictions, I think (I don't do this kind of work), for what can be displayed, and knowing the type of content would help to determine if there would be problems with reformatting the pages to fit on various screen sizes.

Again, you need to look at the choices along with the pros and cons.

For iOS you can certainly go with PDF but keep in mind that you will be restricted as to interactivity. Ditto for EPUB.

DPS will provide the most interactivity but has a bit of learning curve and you will be faced with Apple's fickle rejection of book-like apps.

You can also take a look at iBooks Author.

Hi Julian, Do you want to publish your book on Amazon and Itunes etc? I am just trying to create my first ebook using Indesign 5.5, have come up with a few stumbleing blocks but I think I can answer your question. It doesnt matter what size your pages are in indesisign beacuase when you export to epub its just a file with type, basicly  an html file. To learn more I would go to the Adobe tv tutorials.  You don't need to worry about ipad or iphone, the readers sort all that out.

    Hope that helps, Jayne
