I want to do an "InstantMovie", I set the InstantMovie option, the there's a progress bar "automatic analyze will be started and immediately after that I get an error "cannot automatically analyze file". I tried different files, but I always get this error!
What can be the reason?
Thank for your response:
I'm a very beginner and I want to get familiar with PE11 functions, so I want to see what "InstantMovie" will do.
I don't have changed anything in the project settings. I started PE11 - choose new project - drag'n'drop my avi file (from my photo camera) onto PE11 - it will be automatically inserted in the time line and then I choose "InstantMovie". And then I get the error
My source file is out of my photo camera - it's an avi file 640x480, 9231kBit/s, 30 frames/s, audio 128kBit/s mono
I use "beginner's/fast mode" not "expert mode" of PE11.
Thanks,
Herb

That MAY mean your file uses the Motion JPEG codec... which is not easy to edit

ADDED... if your camera is one that puts H.264 inside an AVI wrapper... you will have LOTS of problems
H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI or MOV... so use the MOV wrappe
Many thanks for your detailed answer!! There's a lot to read.
My source is a fuji MJPEG in the avi container. Previously I did cut and export with this source file and it worked well. Only the "automatic analyze" didn't work. Due to your answer I tried to export my avi source file in PE11 to a MP4 file. Then I opened this MP4 file with PE11 and - voila - "automatic analyze" works fine!!
An "InstantMovie" works now fine.
It's a little bit clumsy to export every source to MP4 to have all functions in PE11 working (but on the other hand MP4 saves disc space
)
Thank you very much,
Herb
The best tool for converting MJPEG-AVIs is Windows MovieMaker 2.6, per this FAQ.

Following the instructions in this link to convert your file will definitely work.
Converting to an MP4 or some other AVI format may or may not. In fact, it may take you farther from a solution.
