Select/Invert suddenly not working in CS5

I used the invert function last week and now today, it is suddenly not working. I have delelted preferences

Tried emptying preferences in Library and still.....nada.

 

Any ideas? I feel like I'm going bananas.

    And you got the small dialog to OK deleting preference settings when you trashed the preferences?

    How do you know it is not inverting? Are you zoomed out far enough to see document edge and marching ants (or lack of)?

    and or did you test it by function?

    Marching ants are there. I'm zoomed out. It's weird. I use this all the time to create soft vignette. I go through the same process each time but this time, no inverse. It just doesn't feel like doing it this time around.

    So you see the marching ants change? To border the edge of your document? But the selection is not acting like pixels are selected?

    You may want to post a full screen capture, and describe exactly what you are trying to do, and where it is not working as you think it should.

    I don't see the maching ants change as they should to border edge of document.

    This is what I'm doing:

    I've done it many times. Everything has been fine. Now, I get to the inverse stage and it doesn't want to inverse. So strange.

    recap:

    You make a selection with the elliptical marquee.

    Then you go Select>Inverse, but you don't see the marching ants change to the border the edge of the doc.

     

    BUT have you continued with the tutorial? And it does not work (or, it works backwards from how it should work?)

     

    Maybe a full screen grab might help.

    This is even stranger. I just tried it again. It is working now. Weird.
