I opened a new document and tried to save it and it didnt let me save so I tried once more and it crashed. Since then ive been trying to open it but still not working- the apple problem report comes up every time but i do not know how to interpret that. Any help would be great- I need to use my software- I have a deadline to meet.
Thanks.
Your recovery data is probably corrupt. By default the recovery folder should be in
Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/
but if you are on Lion or later this will be hidden, so see
Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion
Once you find the folder, empty it, then try starting ID again. If it continues to crash, see Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets for a dexcription of how to collect the crash report. Post that crash report on Pastebin.com and put a link here.
ok, here is the link http://pastebin.com/n3NvSrYs
Your crash has something to do with text, which likely means it's either a problem with a font manager (do you use one?) or a font. See Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X
You can download the manual updater from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5366
And your license certainly allows you to reinstall, if necessary on the same machine. You are allowed to install on several machines, and can have two activated at the ame time, with the restriction that they may not be used simultaneioously or by more than one user (you).
I also looked on the web there where it should be located....
Mac OS X: Users/[User Name]/ Library/Cache/Adobe InDesign/Version[#.0]/ InDesign Recovery...... i looked and there is no Adobe indesign folder/recovery so I suspect it is all deleted..... so.... now to try and install it again!!
Run the uninstall from the HD>Applications>Utilities>Adobe Installers with the Remove Preferences box checked. Then run
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation -problems.html
Then reinstall the CS5.5 suite again.
The cleaner tool will remove all the leftover junk in your system.
Your user library is hidden You need to follow the instructions at Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion as I suggested in my first response above.
Empty the InDesign Recovery folder. Also delete the InDesign Saved Data and InDesign Defaults files (See Replace Your Preferences for where they are -- the SavedData file is in the same Caches folder as the recovery folder, but theDefaults file is in another location) and perhaps delete the files in John's list here: Adobe Forums: InDesign crashes at startup
