i am new to the world of photo shop. i am struggling to find a way to change the background of a picture to just white? any help (basic simply step by step) would be great

    You can make a slection of your object or person and then add a white fill layer. See my tutorial at the attached thread.

    It’s always easier if the item was originally photographed against a solid color background. Then you can use the magic wand selection tool to select the background and press ctrl+i to invert.

    You can also create a new file with a white background and move the object to that.

     

    If the background is white already why don't you replace that white with a different white. This may  be the simplest, just a paint bucket or something along those lines.
