Why does the healing brush crosshair change

Two questions, actually. Why does the healing brush crosshair change in location relative to the brush and then why does the crosshair change in color?

 

Also, in healing brush, with "aligned" unchecked, why does the brush image change as it moves? I though tthat with "aligned" off, the selection made with ATL - click stayed constatnt.

    Aligned always turns itself on when you drag rather than clicking repeatedly.

     

    why does the crosshair change in color?

    I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I suspect the answer can be found by clicking the clone overlay button and playing with the settings there.

    Thanks for your input!

     

    I'm not understanding why on You Tube videos of PSE 11, I see folks removing elements out of photos with broad brush sweeps of what I suspect to be Clone Stamp. I was not aware, as you point out, that you need to keep clicking Clone Stamp for it not to chgange the subject area.

     

    If I want to select an area from a photo and paint that over something else in the photo, should a tool other than Clone be used?

    Possibly they're using the Recompose tool. This one:

    You drag over what you want to keep and what you want to lose and push the photo's edges together. If you could provide a link we could tell you for sure what they're using.
