Font styles not showing up

Hello,

Certain font styles in Illustrator are not showing up, Arial bold italic, for instance.  Arial bold and Arial italic work, but I cannot select both.  Photoshop and other apps display it without problem.  I have re-installed the font, cleared my system font cache (Windows), and even tried putting the fonts into the "fonts" folder.  Still no luck.

I'm not sure if this is related but when Times New Roman is selected I get a strange rounded font that is definitely not Times New.  Again, only Illustrator is affected.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Weed out your fonts. Somehow your shuffling around of fonts has introduced a "bad" fond that eitehr wreaks havoc with font family based grouping or usurps a font identifier.

Yes Times New Roman can be part of your problem, especially if Times New Roman PS enabled.

Perhaps I need to re-install Illustrator?

Before doing that, I would try Reset Preferences:

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776

    1) Close the program and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (not reversible)

    or

    2) Move the Folder. See:

You can also try clearing the font cache files. Look for Adobefnt*.lst where the* is a 2 digit number and trash those (with all the apps closed). Then restart the app to force a new cache file to be written.
