Hello.
I was trying to change the copyright information on a few photos in PS, but every time I open the File Info dialog (ctrl-alt-shift-i) the dialog comes up empty and hangs photoshop. Even if I open PS with a new document and try to open File Info, it still hangs.
Has anyone else noticed this issue and is there a workaround?
Here's my version:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1 20120808.r.519 2012/08/08:21:00:00) x64
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
Hi Curt,
It hangs in Bridge too. Looks like it works fine on another system in our office, so it's this install specifically that's troubled. I also tried holding down shift to not load the plug-ins, but it also hung. Also restarted system, to no avail. Picture of hung File Info dialog shown below.
EDIT: I just realized I can press ESC to dismiss the dialog, so at least it dosn't fully crash the application.
Has it ever worked for you on that particular system?
Inability to put up a dialog that's essentially text boxes kind of indicates a basic system problem. Do you see trouble in any other application?
Since you're able to run Photoshop prior to trying File - File Info, try to see if disabling the use of the GPU helps (not that there's much connection, but indirectly a display driver problem might ultimately cause it. In other words, in Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck the [ ] Use Graphics Processor checkbox and close out and restart Photoshop before testing.

Hello.
Disabling GPU: no difference.
File info on JPG (in Bridge): no difference.
I really don't want to spend the time re-installing the CS6 suite. Perhaps I'll try copying the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP from the working system on top of the non-working system (assuming that's where this File Info panel runs from)?
Hello. I'm running 64bit, but don't have PS 32bit installed. I ran 32bit Bridge, and selected file info for a JPG and it shows the same blank dialog box.
Is there a 64bit version of the XMP binaries that I should replace? Is the Flash Player an integral part of XMP/File Info (I see .swf files in the XMP directories)?

THis does not make any sense if talking about CS6. Bridge is a part of PS so if you have 32 bit Bridge you should have 32 bit PS.

Here you are above my pay grade. Trying to figure out which file runs the File Info is beyond me.
If you open File in Windows Explorer can you bring up File Info? If not maybe the problem lies in the OS.
Hello. During installation, I chose not to install 32 bit PS because I'd never use it. I don't think I had a choice of which Bridge(s) got installed.
I can easily bring up a file-properties dialog in the OS... this seems not related to that at all--it looks like whatever runs inside the File Info dialog ("Powered By XMP") is not launching.
Oh well. Looks like I'm going to have to take a few hours and re-install the suite and all my customizations. How difficult is that process? Would installing on top of itself work? Is there a FAQ about saving all of my customizations (e.g., where they are in the filesystem, etc.)?
There's this page describing where Photoshop keeps its bits...

Metadata File Info - some xmp description from the Adobe developer - written for CS4 but similar files same path for CS 5 and 6.
http://blogs.adobe.com/gunar/2009/05/cs4_metadata_file_info_mru_tweaks .html
Windows 7 path: [user]\AppData\Local\Adobe\XMP\File Info\2.0\
Last folder name will be 3.0 or 4.0 for cs5 or 6.
A guess? File Info launch might have problems if it encounters difficulty accessing this data.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I didn't find any files matching with "mru" in the name (I'm running CS6), but did find "FileInfoLibraryPrefs.xml" which contains:
<xfi:libraryprefs xmlns:xfi="http://ns.adobe.com/xmp/fileinfo/">
<xfi:dialogSize width="977" height="753" minWidth="640" minHeight="480"/>
</xfi:libraryprefs>
I renamed it, started Bridge, selected file-info for a file, it still came up blank, but it did drop in a new "FileInfoLibraryPrefs.xml" file with the following:
<xfi:libraryprefs xmlns:xfi="http://ns.adobe.com/xmp/fileinfo/">
<xfi:dialogSize width="680" height="620" minWidth="640" minHeight="480"/>
</xfi:libraryprefs>
Anyway, it didn't work after a second try.
Also, I have Bridge CS3 installed on my system (still using the old Version Cue), and that File Info XMP dialog comes up fine.
I finally got it working. After looking through the registry, reinstalling Flash, I chose to open up my Adobe Creative Suite CS6 payload and install the non-x64 version of Photoshop (hadn't installed it before). It likely re-wrote the files/registry of the XMP stuff and that seemed to get the File Info (XMP) panels to show, and I didn't have to uninstall Creative Suite and have to manually port all my customizations. I post this here in case anyone has this trouble in the future. Thanks for all the replies and support!
